Peregrine Falcon Nest Box
Placed on Illini Tower

A local peregrine falcon is often sighted at Illini Tower on the University of Illinois campus. Local Boy Scout John Patterson wanted to help this species, and decided to do so as part of his Eagle Scout project. On 12/1/09, he placed the first nest box on the east side of the structure atop the roof of Illini Tower. The second box will be located in another location in the spring of 2010. CCAS helped cover the cost of materials for this important project.

“My project is all for the conservation of this awesome bird. . . . My hope is that a pair of falcons will see the box and nest in it. If this happens then it will be the first successful nest box in the area in 50 years.” ~ John Patterson

The nest box finds its home. Hopefully the peregrines will notice it.
