Volunteer

Our Board Leadership typically consists of ~ 15 members: executive officers, supporting board members who serve as committee chairs, and a group of members at large. Learn more about our current board.

If you are interested in learning more about each position on the Board, feel free to contact the current chair. Board roles are filled for at least one year (members at large serve two-year terms), but many individuals have served on our board for many years. The only requirement (besides enthusiasm!) is that you are able to attend the majority of board meetings, which are held at 7:00 PM on the third Monday of each month January – May and August – November (no meetings in June, July, and December).

Not sure you’re ready to commit to board leadership? Consider joining a committee! You are not obligated to attend all board meetings (although attendance is encouraged!). Instead, you will meet with other committee members under the leadership of the committee chair on an as-needed basis.

Our committees, and their duties, include:

• Communications: Print and email newsletter, email announcements, website maintenance, graphic design, social media management and outreach

• Conservation: Funding local projects, facilitating workdays, helping select Kendeigh Grant recipients, monitoring legislative and administrative actions that affect the environment

• Education: Advertising and selecting Mini-Grant recipients, liaising with local schools, youth education

• Field Trip: Coordinating short- and long-distance field trips, assisting with Bird Walks and outdoor programs

• Finance: Assisting with membership, budgets, auditing, taxes, database needs, and financial reports

• Membership: Maintaining an up-to-date list of members, recruiting new members, and managing renewals

• Programs: Contacting potential presenters, organizing and assisting with events, coordinating promotion and advertisement

Newsletter Editor.
Help CCAS communicate to our membership. Edit articles, lay out print news, and coordinate printing and distribution for 9 issues annually. For more information, contact the Communications Chair at mail@champaigncountyaudubon.org.

Membership Chair.
Maintains an up-to-date list of members, recruits new members, and manages renewals. Interested? Contact mail@champaigncountyaudubon.org.

Conservation Chair.
Supports funding requests for local projects, facilitates workdays, helps select Kendeigh Grant recipients, monitors legislative and administrative actions that affect the environment.

Member-at-Large.
CCAS has four Member-at-Large seats open. Duties include attending and casting votes at board meetings. This is a great entry to board service and exploring greater involvement in CCAS. Terms are 2 years. If interested, please contact the us at mail@champaigncountyaudubon.org.

Social media coordinator.

Staffing the CCAS booth at local events.
Talk about birds and CCAS at our booth during events in the CU area. Volunteers will inform visitors about birds, the natural areas in Champaign County and surrounding area, opportunities to learn about birds, and events to put that learning to work. Reviewing grant applications.
Do you have experience reviewing project proposals and about three hours to spare for reading, rating, and discussing submissions to our Kendeigh Research Grants and/or Mini-Grants for Educators?
